2023 Cork 20 international rally day one
The 2023 Cork 20 International Rally takes place over 320+ competitive kilometers. And straight out of the blocks on Saturday morning Callum Devine fastest by 2.9 seconds over Josh Moffett using his brothers newer Hyundai R5 machinery. 3rd overall after stage one was Meirion Evans only 1.1 seconds behind.
Stage 2 and disaster for 002 David Griffin and Sean Moriarty with the gear lever coming off, water pump not working car running hot and other competitors smelling fluid from the exhaust of the little Ae82 Corolla with that they retired from the event so they wouldn’t damage anymore components.
But back at the front of the field and a huge position change for Meirion Evans Propelling there Polo R5 from 3rd to 1st and pulling a gap of 5.4 to Callum Devine GAME ON!
But this time Josh Moffet after the service He got grip from that new HyundaiR5 aandimmediately dialling on the pressure to Meirion Evans passing Callum Devine in the process 0.6 the gap now. Ss4 things remaining almost identical with Meirion extending the lead to 0.9 now.
For the final 4 stages of the day this turned into a game of leap frog with Callum Devine passing Moffett for 2nd position But the real story here was Meirion Evans pulling out a 7.3 second lead on Devine for stage 6 he Pulled a further 3 seconds, Devine more focused on battling with Moffett remembering that Tomorow is a long day of nearly 200 competitive kilometres he knows with a little error or lapse in concentration from the Welshman he could fly into the lead however it was a spin for Josh moffet in Ss7 and now 5 seconds behind Devine now that may have looked worse in the timing sheets because that was a stage Devine took at flat chat and closing the gap to Meirion jot only 6.3 seconds they ended the day as follows:
1st Meirion Evans/Jonathan Jackson
2nd Callum Devine/Noel O’Sullivan +6.8
3rd Josh Moffett/ Andy hayes +4.2
4th James Ford/Neil Shanks +57.2
5th Ryan Loughran/Gareth Doherty +10.3
Historics Section:

2nd Tomas Davies/Dai Roberts +3.0
3rd Trevor Wilson/Paul Mulholland +39.5
4th Ray Breen/Damien Morrissey +2.7
