Meirion Evans wins the 2023 Galway international rally after being in a battle for the two days with Sam and Josh Moffet. Evans was behind after day 1 by over 10 seconds to Josh Moffet but after the first stage of day 2 was cancelled Meirion went on an attack and with Moffet overshooting some corners lost the lead in the space of two stages Cathan McCourt retired after an accident and Mark Alcorn led modified. On stage 14 Evans extended his lead further while Moffet was keen to regain his lead pulled away from his brother Sam in new Hyundai machinery. After stage 14 Mark Alcorn led modified in his MK2 escort. Meirion Evans and Jonathan Jackson won the first Itrc round of 2023 with a lead of 12.7 seconds over Josh Moffet and 29.3 seconds back Sam Moffet who is still getting used to his new Hyundai rally 2 car and outside the top 3 was Jonathan Greer who won the Killarney historic Rally in December and just 1.5 seconds back in 5th was Callum Devine who hopes to get back into the swing of things after a rough start to the season. And in the historic category Meirion Evans (not the overall rally winner) won over Ray Breen.
