Devine cruises to first rally win of 2023
Callum Devine cruised to victory on this weekend’s midlands stages rally. This was also the opening round of the Triton showers National rally championship.
The pair led from start to finish and won the rally overall by a whopping 10.7 seconds to former Brc champion Matt Edwards. And just 00.7 seconds further back was Josh Moffet in his i20
The pair have had to wait a bit longer than they would’ve liked for another victory on Irish tarmac as there last win came last year at the rally of the lakes which went down to the wire, nevertheless they were delighted here is how they did it. After a dry start to the day Devine opened up a lead early on and after 3 stages he lead by 5.6 seconds over Josh Moffet the rain would arrive later on however for the last 3 stages of the rally making this finish to be more unpredictable and so it was as Matt Edwards closed the gap to Moffet on ss6 and they were now level Stage 7 saw the rain arrive hard and Callum Devine extending his lead by ten seconds over everyone he now lead by over 15 seconds meanwhile Matt Edwards maintained his second position but only by 1.5 seconds and into into the last 2 stages the lead was very comfortable for Devine but he didn’t seem to slow down now bringing the gap to 18.2 seconds over Edwards who was under threat from Moffet who was pushing and brought the gap to 0.8 going into the final stage. It was a win for Callum Devine and Noel O’Sullivan the perfect way to kickstart their Triton showers National Championship campaign 15 odd seconds back was Matt Edwards who kept Josh Moffet at bay for the final test he came home second with Garry Kieran wining modified in his Mk2 Escort.
